Mazie Bernard - PhD Candidate at Purdue University in Political Science.
Originally from Indianapolis, I attended Purdue University for my undergraduate degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, concentrating in policy analysis. After completing my undergraduate degree, I switched gears to pursue a career in political science.
The following year, I returned to Purdue University to begin my Ph.D. Through my studies, I have developed a research agenda focusing on international political economy, sustainable development, and technology in international organizations - often through a critical feminist lens. My dissertation explores gendered knowledge production in multilateral development institutions.
I am also a researcher for the Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI) where I work in the Global Development and Innovation (GDI) Lab. Here I assist in international digital development and technology projects, including those in digital economy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and green technology innovation. I am also a research affiliate for the Governance and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (GRAIL).
I have advanced methodological training from the ICPSR and IQMR summer programs that I apply to my research. I enjoy learning and exploring methodological designs, leading me to complete a graduate certification in Advanced Methods at Purdue in Behavioral, Health, & Social Sciences. I also have computational programming experience in R and Python, which I employ in several of my research projects.
As an avid environmentalist, I enjoy hiking and horticulture. I have a love for travel and hope to visit a new country every year - my most recent travel was to Iceland. I am also always willing to share stories and pictures of my two cats - Wallie and Luna.
